ANSU celebrates 32nd foundation day
ITANAGAR, Jan 29: All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) yesterday celebrated its 32nd Foundation day in befitting manner here at ANSU office premises.
Speaking on the occasion, ANSU president Sikka Gapak urged the ANSU to play a bigger role by going beyond the Nyishi community and to serve the state through competent leadership.

Declaring the tournament open, Wangki Lowang, Parliamentary Secretary, (Sports & Youth Affairs) emphasized the need to grow sports culture amongst the youth and asked the participants to actively involve in every aspects of the game.

AAP to contest elections in Arunachal

ITANAGAR, Jan 29: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today formally announced its entry in Arunachal Pradesh by declaring to contest the ensuing Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.

Apart from Arunachal Pradesh, the party has already constituted state committees in Assam, Manipur, Tripura and Meghalaya, Payeng said adding that “they are mulling to test the political arena in Sikkim, Mizoram and Nagaland.”
The AAP has also declared that it would focus on several issues related to the common man in the state by demanding a strong Lokayukta in the state and to demand for reduction of the RTI fee per copy from Rs.10. The RTI is a strong tool for a clean and transparent government, but the state government seems to curb it by increasing the fee from Rs.2 to Rs.10 per copy, said the former RTI Commissioner.
The party has constituted a small preparatory committee in Arunachal which, though temporary in nature, is launching a membership drive throughout the state, added Payeng. Advocate Tayum Son, social worker Takar Lino, Habung Tamang and Yomkar Riba are some of the active members of the preparatory committee.
Emphasizing the basic tenants of AAP, Payeng informed that all contesting candidates will have to execute an affidavit declaring that they would not avail of any luxurious government accommodation and would not use red light in their official vehicles if they are elected. Further, aspiring candidates with criminal background would not be issued party tickets.
On being asked about the strategy to contest from a Congress bastion like Arunachal Pradesh, Payeng said that they would work for the people and provide a better alternative than parties like Congress and BJP. People have witnessed what the Congress government has done for the last many decades in the state, now let the people see what AAP can do witnessing the functioning at Delhi, said Payeng. “The voters of the state are very conscious and the AAP will be able to provide good governance as expected by the people," he added.
Rs 29 cr state matching share for SSA released
ITANAGAR, Jan 29: In a major decision, the state Government has released the State matching share of Rs. 29 Cr. for Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Programmes for Arunachal Pradesh. This will facilitate the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India to release the remaining share of Rs. 175 Crore meant for salary of SSA and KGBV teachers and other SSA progammes.
The high level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki in presence of Finance and Planning Minister Chowna Mein, Education Minister Bosiram Siram, Development Commissioner Finance Ramesh Negi and Commissioner Education K R Meena took this decision.
The SSA and KGBV teachers’ salary would be released after the receipt of the central share which is expected in the month of February next.
While showing serious concern over the enhancement of KGBV school teacher’s salary, the chief minister assured to take up the matter with the ministry of human resource development, GOI immediately. He observed that, it is imperative on the part of central government to change the salary norms for KGBV teachers serving in tough and inhospitable terrains of Arunachal Pradesh which shares international borders with China, Myanmar and Bhutan.
Meanwhile, a high level committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Commissioner Education to study various grievances of KGBV employees. The committee shall submit a detail report to the government within a month.
ITANAGAR, Jan 29: While referring to the ‘group clashes in the forest area in Tarasso circle’, state Govt has appealed to the people not to panic and maintain peace and harmony.
“A preliminary information has been received that some clashes between two groups has taken place in the forest area near Sango village under Tarasso Circle of Papum Pare district today. The facts are being verified through district authorities and officers posted in the area,” said state Chief Secretary in a release today.
In the meantime, people are appealed not to panic and react to the reports and maintain peace and harmony. Officials of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh are in constant touch with each other and adequate steps are being taken up to maintain peace and tranquility in the area while facts of the report are being ascertained, the release added.

ITANAGAR, Jan 29: The Arunachalee prisoners languishing in North Lakhimpur district jail reportedly have been on hunger strike since January 17 demanding their shifting to Jollang District jail, Itanagar.
Highly placed source informed that out of 12 Arunachalee prisoners, four are on hunger strike demanding the authority to shift them immediately claiming that their basic rights and facilities are being denied and deprived of.

Talking to The Arunachal Times over the telephone from the district jail, one of the prisoners said, “We get no annual leave like inmates of this state, moreover our rights are being deprived and denied.” He further complained that there is no medical facilities for the prisoners. 7th NE Fide Rating Chess Championship begins at Nirjuli
ITANAGAR, Jan 29: The 7th North East Fide Rating Chess Tournament 2014 begun from today at Nyikum Nyia, Hall, Nirjuli. It is being organised by All Arunachal Pradesh Chess Association (AAPCA) and participants from all the North East state are taking part. More than 200 players from north east have registered.
The Member of Parliament, Arunachal West Parliamentary Constituency Takam Sanjoy declared the tournament open. Wildlife Board advocates for environment and wildlife education in primary schools
ITANAGAR, Jan 29: The meeting of State Board for Wildlife (SBW) was held in the Conference Hall of PCCF office under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Nabam Tuki yesterday. There are 30 members in the board including the MLAs, officials and NGOs. The board is constituted as per the provisions of Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972. The main function of the State board for wildlife is to advise State Government in the selection and management of the areas to be declared as protected areas and in formulation of the policy of protection and conservation of wildlife and specified plants.
Addressing the participants, the Chief Minister, who is the Chairman of the Board emphasized on organization such meeting at frequent intervals.
Stressing the need of bringing awareness among the people, especially youths on
the preservation of flora and fauna, the Chief Minister advised that the PRIs and

After discussion threadbare on various issues, the Board decided that important issues like surrendering of arm license should be encouraged. Using of chemical/ explosive/invertors for fishing should be strictly prohibited and dealt with strictly as per the law. Besides, the other departments like fisheries should also take stringent action as per their regulation. Ban on purchasing of Airgun, the Board resolved to direct all the DC’s to ban selling and purchasing of air guns throughout the state. Issuing of new arm licenses should be strictly regulated. Economical sustainable schemes for local communities should be introduced effectively. Wildlife trafficking should be monitored by both police personnel and Forest Department. All Forest check gates should be strengthened so as to check wildlife and forest crime. Stern action should be taken against officers and officials if found involved in wildlife crime. Environment and Wildlife education should be introduced in primary school in the State of Arunachal Pradesh.
The PCCF (WL&BD) Omkar Singh assured the members that all possible steps will be taken for the protection and management of the Wildlife Sanctuaries and National Parks.

Setong Sena, Sharda Prasad, Principal Advisor to the state Chief Minister and officers from the Union Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of External Affairs.

After detailed deliberations it was agreed in the meeting that customs officials would be posted at the land customs station at Nampong to immediately take up trade activities. It was also agreed that Ministry of External Affairs would initiate action for the development of road infrastructure in the area and to request their counterparts in the Government of Myanmar to initiate pending action to set up a corresponding land customs station within their border near Nampong. It was also agreed that Arunachal Pradesh Govt would expedite and send pending project proposals for industrial development in the area to union Ministry of Commerce at the earliest.
The Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry will also discuss all related issues with the Government of Myanmar during his next visit there scheduled for March 15 next.
AAPPTF for favourable transport policy for unemployed local youths

In a representation to the Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner today, the Federation further reiterated that Govt should provide suitable parking places for all type of vehicles in Capital Complex and continue eviction drive along NH 52 within Capital Complex.
Yesterday, in a representation to secretary, Transport, the Federation had sought the intervention of the Govt for proper implementation of the agreement made between AAPPTF and Tour Operator Association of Assam (TOOAA) on November 24, 2013 regarding plying of outside tourist taxis in Arunachal.
The Federation said the commercial transport system should be followed strictly in border state like Arunachal and it should be favourable for unemployed local youths.
Approval of Tourist taxi permit from Assam and other NE states in Arunachal does not mean that the vehicles will ply in every sector, colony and local area thereby depriving the unemployed local youths.
The Federation further reiterated its demands for annual meeting of state transport authority with the federation members to discuss various issues relating to transport system.

NO bandh call please
Dear Editor,
I want to express my view on bandh calls by various organizations. It has been seen
in the past that bandh calls are either called off or deferred in the last moments.
Band called off or deferred are made known to common people on the proposed band
call day only. The common people are always in dilemma whether bandh would be enforced
or called off. It affects everybody. People those who want to travel to State Capital
or travel outside the capital have to pre-
It is also seen that authority waits for last minute agreement with bandh callers to withdraw bandh calls. Why to wait for the last moment? Why it can’t be at least 24 hours before so that public gets proper information on time to minimize loss? The Capital administration had issued warnings many a times to bandh callers citing Hon’ble Supreme Court order to take action for enforcing bandh calls. But it is not known how many bandh callers have landed in jail or how much have been recovered from bandh callers for damages/lost made in the bandh calls.
So, my request to the bandh callers is that please avoid such harsh step. Take the path of Dharnas, Rallies and Hunger strikes if you genuinely feel that your stand is right and for good cause. Even if bandh is called and then it is to be called off please do it atleast 24 hours before the time so that common people are not harassed unnecessarily.

Transfer of capital DC IAS Sanjay Goel is indeed a great loss to entire capital complex. He had done great justice to every task under his capacity. Apparently he had set up a high standard for this particular post. I wish his successor do the same? I hope that his transfer was done as per normal official proceeding and there was no ill political motive behind it.
Goel sir, the good works are always credited, no matter you don't hear that often but your name will always prevail in common people's heart. Keep up the good work and you will receive the silent admiration and good wishes of common public because they can't reach you. Wish you happy and prosperous life.

The politically sensitive decision to form the SIT to investigate the riots which left around 3000 Sikhs dead following the assassination of the then prime minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984 may create trouble in the relationship between AAP and Congress which has been providing outside support to Kejriwal dispensation. But the move has been welcomed by riot victims and opposition parties alike. Hope this SIT, once constituted will help riot victims to get justice, though it may be delayed one.
